The Black OrderAs many of us are still in shock from the Avengers: Infinity War film, this week’s pick for #SuperheroSaturdays is about those ruthless villains, THE BLACK ORDER. Image is by Dustin Nguyen.

In the Avengers: Infinity War film, Thanos had a crew of powerful evil beings that seemed to easily take on our heroes. And if you are not an avid comic reader, you were probably like who the hell are these guys. They are The Black Order. This group of ruthless aliens work for Thanos. They help him raze worlds, and subsequently demand tribute. In the film, we saw four (4) members of the order.

Members of The Black Order:

The Black OrderCorvus Glaive is Thanos’ chief negotiator. He has enhanced strength, speed, durability, and endurance. He uses a bladed pike which can cut through anything. Moreover, when Corvus Glaive has the bladed pike in his hand, it makes him immortal. In the film, Vision was no match for the lethal and favorite general of the Mad Titan.

The Black OrderProxima Midnight is the wife of Corvus Glaive. She is a master hand-to-hand combatant. Additionally, she has super-strength, and is almost impervious to injury. If that is not enough, her lance transforms into unavoidable toxic light beams. In the comics, she conquered the people of Atlantis. And the film definitely depicted her as one bad woman. She is not to be trifled with.

Ebony Maw is another deadly member of the order. The Black OrderHe has genius-level intellect, and specializes in persuasion. Additionally, he telepathic, telekinetic, and uses mind control on his enemies. Still, it is his preference for strategy over violence sets him apart from the other members. He was able to take control of Doctor Strange to obtain the Time Stone!

The Black OrderBlack Dwarf is not really a dwarf at all. Don’t we just love ironic names. He is the largest member of the order, and the powerhouse. Hehas super-strength, enhanced density, and impenetrable skin. Additionally, he is the brother of Corvus Glaive. Though he is the powerhouse, he actually fails in his attack on Wakanda.  Not to mention, he was killed by Ronan the Accuser. Apparently the film had to take liberties with this story line, as Ronan was killed in Guardians of Galaxy Vol 1.

Missing Members:

The Avengers: Infinity War film did not have the fifth member of The Black Order. This is The Black Orderprobably because as in most comics, there are multiple versions of stories. In the original version, the fifth member of the order was Super Giant. This member had telepathic abilities, and after she killed, she returned as a being of psychic energy. In the Earth-1365 version, the fifth member of the order was The Black OrderBlack Swan. She has the ability to implant a telepathic virus in the minds of others which disrupts the natural functions of their brains. I am very curious to see if Super Giant or Black Swan make it into the next film.
